Roxboro Sharks: meet follow up, meet at Vermack, swimmer signups and more
My apologies, it appears my Friday email never “sent”. It shows on the website from my end as sent, but I have heard from quite a few of you it was not received. Here it is again. Please disregard the fact that some information may be in reference to events already passed.
Hello Sharks,
Great job Sharks! You all did so well at our first meet of the season against one of the largest teams in our ASA Division, the Garden Hills CoolSharks. We didn’t win and that is ok. I am so proud of our swimmers and coaches, you swam fast and you showed great sportsmanship in the water and on the deck. I am so proud of our parents and families for all you did to help us have a successful meet. It takes a lot of volunteers to run a meet and you all stepped up and did your part. The weather cooperated and we had a great night with over 275 swimmers. Amazing! Coach Jennifer has posted your individual results on the website. If you go to the RoxboroSharks.swimtopia.com website, log in, go to swim meets and scroll down to the Roxboro vs Garden Hills meet, there is a pdf loaded with our results. You can also see your times and results on the labels adhered to the back of your swimmer’s ribbons. Ribbons are handed out after practices on Wednesday morning. If you missed practice on Wednesday, you can pick up your ribbons at SharkBites any time during normal pool operating hours.
Beginning the week of June 3, meet signups will close at 5pm on Friday before the meet. Save yourself some angst and go ahead and signup for all the meets now. We have a roster of over 150 swimmers, it is imperative we know who will be available to swim so that we can make a complete meet lineup. Our league rules are very specific about when the lineups have to be completed. It is very difficult for us to add a swimmer to the lineup past those deadlines. Please help us and sign up your swimmer for the meets you know you will be attending now.
Our next meet is at Vermack on Tuesday, June 5. Vermack is located at 4756 Vermack Road, Dunwoody GA 30338. Please plan to arrive by 4:30pm for check in and markups. We will warm up as a team at 5pm and the meet will start promptly at 5:30pm. Vermack will have a concession stand with the usual goods, plus some ChickFilA sandwiches. CASH only, small bills appreciated. We will bring our blue popup tents to provide shelter for our bullpens as needed. You may want to bring your tailgate chairs with you. All meets need volunteers, please sign up for a job! Thank you.
I didn’t have to use the Remind text alerts last week as the weather cooperated, but I will use it in the event of inclement weather this Tuesday. I will only use the Remind text alerts for meets. If you haven’t already signed up please text to 81080, the message “@g699b”.
Please remember to follow our RVA parking map and guidelines for all events at Roxboro. I have again attached the map for your reference. Flashback to Drivers Education classes… it is illegal to park on any road with a dashed line in the center. DO NOT park on West Roxboro. Please also be good to our neighbors, don’t block driveways, mailboxes or fire hydrants. Please don’t double park. Please don’t park on lawns or sidewalks. Unfortunately, some cars were ticketed due to illegal parking on Tuesday night. Please use common sense and common courtesy. Ok, enough said about parking.
Team Photos are on Thursday, June 7. Earlier I mistakenly referenced the wrong date. Please plan to be in your team suit and on deck by 9am on Thursday, June 7. I have attached a copy of the order form if you would like to go ahead and complete the form. Team photo, individual photo, family and/or friends photos are available.
RVA annual lapathon with Swim Across America benefiting CHoA and the fight against Childhood Cancer is on Friday, June 22. The pledge sheet is attached. Please consider collecting pledges per lap, or flat donations for this worthy cause.
The signups for the ASA Divisionals at Georgia Tech on Thursday, June 28 are now open. Signup the same way you signup for a meet. ASA has 6 sessions of divisionals at Georgia Tech. The top swimmers across all divisions will qualify to swim in the ASA Championship Finals on Saturday, June 30. Roxboro will swim our divisionals on Thursday, June 28, meet starts at 9am. This is a great opportunity for our swimmers to swim in the "big pool" at Georgia Tech. It is the same length as Roxboro, but it feels a lot bigger and a lot scarier for some of our youngest swimmers. If you have questions about this event, please don't hesitate to ask me.
Our End of Season Celebration will also be on Thursday, June 28. We will gather together at 6pm at Roxboro to celebrate our swimmers, coaches and season. Please mark your calendars now.
Parents, please refrain from having conversations with our coaches during practice times. Their number one concern is the safety of the swimmers. If you need to talk to a coach about private lessons, babysitting or the Atlanta United game, please wait and do that after practice. If you need to talk to a coach during practice time about swim practice specific issues, please go to Head Coach Jennifer or myself first. Thank you.
Finally, a few reminders about RVA rules and policies: Swim practice is not a drop off event. A parent or guardian must be on the RVA property for the entire duration of your swimmer’s practice time. The only exceptions to this are for those swimmers that have taken and passed this year’s RVA swimmer safety test. Swimmers age 9 years or older can take a test given by the RVA lifeguards in order to have drop off privileges at RVA. Please see any lifeguard during normal pool operating hour for more information. The baby pool is now open and can be used during swim team practice. Please note, there are no lifeguards on duty and the coaches are not responsible for those in the baby pool.
Any questions, please contact me.
Thank you,
Jennifer Entrekin
Roxboro Sharks Swim Team Manager
