Roxboro home meet vs Dunwoody CC, meet information

    Good evening Sharks,

Our first meet is tomorrow, Tuesday May 28.  Please read this email entirely as it has a lot of information.

Parking. This is probably the most important part of this email. Pine Hills neighborhood is an older Atlanta neighborhood and with that comes narrow streets and sometimes difficult parking. A few reminders about parking-  Parking must be kept to one side of Roxboro Drive. The right hand side leading to the pool gates is the only side of Roxboro Drive to park on. This is mandatory as it keeps enough space on Roxboro Drive open for emergency vehicles to get to the pool if needed. Please don't be that driver that parks in a way that prevents an emergency vehicle from getting to the pool. This applies to all swim team events, practices and meets. For meets, the parking lot is closed. No access to anyone without prior communication from the Swim Team Manager. We have an off-duty Atlanta Police Officer on hand that will help our Traffic Coordinator direct you in and around Pine Hills with suggestions for parking. They are posted at the intersection of Roxboro and Lee Circle.  This is where you can drop off your swimmers.  From here they can walk down the hill to the pool, join their friends and coaches, and wait for you to park your car and join them.  You can use Lee Circle to loop back around and find appropriate parking.  NO parking on Lee Circle.  NO parking on West Roxboro Road at any time. This road has a center yellow line (although very faded), therefore no parking. Any parked cars will be subject to tickets, boot or tow.  Please be a good neighbor and visitor and do not block driveways, mailboxes or intersections.  Please don't run over trashcans.  Please don't park in lawns or on other foliage.  Please just practice good common sense and courtesy.  I have attached the parking map to help you navigate. Please consider carpooling with a friend and neighbor.  Thank you.

Meet entries for this meet are closed.  Coach Matt and Coach CarolClair work for many hours to build a competitive lineup for our meet.  Entries for each meet are due by 11:30pm the Friday prior to the meet.  If your swimmer is injured or sick and unable to make the meet tomorrow, please let us know asap.

Job signups for this meet are still open!  Please login and signup for a job if you have not already done so.  It takes a lot of help to provide a fun, safe and enjoyable meet experience for everyone.  Katy Barnes is our Volunteer Coordinator this season.  You can find her at the table near the shallow end corner, closest to the sidewalk that leads to Shark Bites.  Please stop by, sign in and get your name-tag.  Katy and I will assign jobs if all the spots are not filled by the start time of the meet.  Remember, I have a simple request, "if your child is swimming in the meet, you need to volunteer to work a job".  Thank you for your help.

Please plan to arrive at Roxboro by 4pm for markups.  Warmups will begin at 4:30pm, Sharks in the water first.  The meet starts promptly at 5:30pm.

What to pack?  Dry towels and full water bottles.  Bring some card games, coloring books or other age appropriate activities to keep your swimmers entertained between races.  Sunscreen.  Bug spray.  Goggles.  Swimsuit.  Swim cap.  Snacks.  Lots of energy and patience are also a good thing to bring with you.  S.H.A.R.K.'s practice and display Sportsmanship, Hard work, (good) Attitude, Respect and Kindness at all swim events.

There is a concession stand at our home meets.  Burgers, dogs, chips, drinks and candy are some of the things available.  Please bring small bills to help them with the change.

Inclement weather at a swim meet.  We try everything in our power to get a swim meet in on the scheduled date.  This can include waiting out a weather delay.  Summer nights in Atlanta include the ever present possibility of a fast moving thunderstorm.  There is no space large enough to protect everyone from potentially bad weather.  In the case of an incoming thunderstorm, we may ask everyone to move to their cars for shelter.  Please do not leave the neighborhood.  The storms usually move fast and we can resume a meet quickly.  I will use the Remind App to keep everyone advised during these times.  Text the message @g699b to 81010 to join.

I have handed out the majority of our 2019 team t-shirts.  I was lucky and ordered just enough extras that I will have a t-shirt for every registered swimmer, even those that missed the t-shirt deadline.  Please see me at practice to collect your t-shirt if you have not already done so.  Please put your name on your t-shirt.  We have 148 registered Sharks this summer and they all have a t-shirt that looks just like yours.
