First HOME Meet on Tuesday May 30

    RVA Sharks,

Are you ready?!  The coaches and I have been hard at work getting ready for our first meet at Home on Tuesday May 30. Some things to help you have a great meet experience.

VOLUNTEER!  We need volunteers to make a well run, safe and fun swim meet for our Sharks and our visitor swimmers from Georgetown.  Please click the Volunteer tab on the calendar of the roxborosharks.swim-team.us site and select a position. The rule is simple, if your child is swimming, we need you to volunteer at least one shift.  The shifts are designed so you will only be working for about 1.5 hours. If you have questions about those positions, see the swim team information page on our roxborovalley.com site.

CONCESSIONS.  For swim meets we have a concession tent in the parking lot with burgers, dogs, chips and candy for sale. Please bring small bills, $1s and $5s are appreciated.  You can also pack your personal cooler with snacks and foods your swimmers want and need to be ready for their events.  SharkBites is not open during swim meets.

POOL Hours.  The pool will close promptly at 3pm on days of home meets to allow the coaches time to set up and prepare for our meet.

ARRIVAL time for swimmers is between 4 and 4:30pm.

PARKING.  We are an older neighborhood with narrow streets and very limited parking in the RVA lot.  We reserve those spaces in the lot for the coaches, managers and officials, and we set up our guest bullpens and the Sharks Concessions in the parking lot.  Please do not plan to park in the RVA lot, no matter how early you arrive.  Those spaces are reserved.  If you have an injured, elderly or disabled passenger that requires up close parking, please email me directly so that I can work with you to secure parking.  I have attached the parking map. The no parking areas and one side of street parking only will be enforced by the Atlanta City Police officer working for us on Tuesday.  Please be courteous and do not block the driveways of our neighbors.  We will have the older Sharks at the intersection of Lee Circle and Roxboro to escort your younger swimmers down to the pool.  You can drop them there and then circle around and find appropriate parking.

WEATHER.  As everyone knows, summer evening weather in Atlanta can be sunshine one minute and dark skies with thunder and lightning the next minute.  At RVA we do not have a safe inside space to wait out a storm.  If a storm rolls in, we will ask you to go to your cars and wait there for further communication via text message.  We will do everything we can to get a meet started and completed on the scheduled night.  It is nearly impossible to re-schedule so we do not want you to leave until you get the text message saying the meet is cancelled.  PLEASE be sure you have signed up for text alerts via the roxborosharks.swim-team.us site.  You would have entered your mobile number in when you registered your swimmer(s).

MORE information.  There is a lot of information on both websites, please look for answers to your questions there. If you still have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I have the RVA Sharks t-shirts and will begin distributing those at practice on Tuesday morning. We will resume morning practice on Tuesday and continue every weekday morning until the end of the season.  Optional evening practices will begin on Thursday, June 1 and run every Monday and Thursday until the end of the season.  Check the calendar on either website for specific age group times.

    Thank you and GO SHARKS!
