    Eve of our first meet

On the Eve of our first meet, I want to provide some info to our new families and a refresher to our returning.    Swim Meet facts:

    • We ask for you to try to arrive about 4:00 p.m.Why so early you say?It takes time to squish two teams of swimmers and families in at the end of a dead end road!!The home team will warm up at 4:30 and the opponent at 5:00.The meet will start promptly at 5:30.

    • Parking will be a challenge. The lot is essentially closed to allow critical parking for both teams, our concession stand and some parking reserved for handicapped accessible.(If anyone has an injury or visitor that requires handicapped accessible parking-please let me know and we will save you a space. ) To manage the cars and keep everyone safe we follow the attached parking plan.Parents- you can feel comfortable dropping off your swimmers as many are walking down together.Big Sharks take care of the Littler Sharks!!

    • The meet is 86 events (see attached document for order) and will likely last from 5:30 – 8:30 or so.It is split into 2 volunteer shifts.Plan on about a 7 p.m. or so shift.6 and unders only swim in the first half.

    • Will we starve? NO.Because the Maiellaro’s will be leading the concession stand again and serving up yummy burgers and dogs—no veggie, no vegan, no gluten free. But the best hamburger I eat all year and all proceeds go to support the swim team! Please bring small bills. Oh yeah…they have candy and drinks too

    • Volunteers are needed. Our list is still light. Please come willing to support your children by volunteering. If you have questions about any of the positions, please see our volunteer coordinator Tracy Noble. She always smiles so please be kind to her!

    • Brigitte Peck and company will be processing the paper work for this meet.Bull pen moms—yes I know you want a heat sheet (the slang name for a swim meet program of events) but this is the first meet and you probably won’t get them early! We will do our best.

    • Things that are good to bring include food if you don’t think your kids will enjoy the concession stand, extra towels, dry clothes, don’t forget shoes for the walk down the hill, sun screen maybe, bug spray possibly, games and books to pass the down time. I’m sure I am forgetting something…

    • I’m tempted to not even mention the weather so as not to jinx us but….Remember we will swim inrain. The kids are already wet but parents might want a rain coat and a baggie for their cell phone. Thunder and lightning wreak havoc with us.Our goal will always be to try to get a meet in (or at least to the half way mark so we don’t have to reschedule) but sometimes we are delayed. If the weather turns bad we will encourage folks to go to their cars to wait it out (but those of us that have been around know that it’s hard to get to our cars!)In case of a weather delay,we will TEXT and E-MAIL weather updates from the website. I’m not going to talk about that anymore because I just don’t want to deal with it…….

The first one always bumps a little but it starts the fun of the season so….Let’s GO SHARKS!!!!!!!!
